The airport was officially opened on 16 July 1938 as Luton Municipal Airport by the Right Honourable Kingsley Wood, Secretary of State for Air. The airport was owned by the Borough of Luton and, even in those early days, it was considered that Luton ought to be designated the northern terminal for London. Between 1992 and 1996, £30 million was invested in the airport infrastructure which resulted in a considerable upgrading of facilities.
London Luton provides long term parking for 9,500 cars, within minutes of the terminal building. For disabled passengers there is an area adjacent to the terminal entrance where they can be dropped off, (the drivers then may proceed to the car parking areas), there are regular buses that will transport you back to the terminal.
Luton's short term car park is located very close to the terminal building which offers both speed and convenience to passengers. When arriving follow the gold park sign to the short term parking area.
No need to depend on public transport or impose on relatives or friends.
